Why we love Coconut Milk for skincare

Updated: Feb 6

Many of us know the story of Cleopatra bathing in soured milk (and errr... personally, we are not a fan of this idea). But did you know that coconut milk is also highly beneficial, and the perfect addition to your evening soak?

When applied topically, coconut milk can act to soothe and rejuvenate your skin, leaving it looking plump, glowing, and refreshed. But that's not all it can do!

Here are the top six reasons why we love

coconut milk in our skincare:

It's packed with Vitamin C

Rich in antioxidants, vitamin C helps to increase the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in plumper-looking skin. It also acts to fight free radicals, prevent premature aging, and even skin tone and lighten hyperpigmentation through its ability to inhibit melanin production.

It helps maintain skin elasticity

The presence of both vitamin C + vitamin E in coconut milk makes it a powerhouse for rebuilding and maintaining skin elasticity. These vitamins work to boost the production of key proteins vital for youthful, healthy skin.

It contains beneficial fatty acids

Coconut milk is an incredibly rich source of beneficial fatty acids, including oleic acid, which works to penetrate deep into the skin, locking in moisture and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

It has anti-inflammatory properties

Coconut milk is purported to have anti-inflammatory properties due to its rich fatty acid content. The soothing and healing capabilities of fatty acids such as lauric, oleic and stearic acids work to soothe and heal the skin, evening out skin tone and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

It is antimicrobial

Coconut milk contains high levels of lauric acid, a natural antimicrobial. Lauric acid works to inhibit acne-causing nasties, as well as soothing inflamed skin. It also has the added benefit of aiding in skin repair and works as a cleansing agent.

It supports skin health

The essential fatty acids found in coconut milk help to protect the skin barrier and balance your skin's natural pH levels. This reduces inflammation and staves off any nasty bugs that might want to call your face home while keeping your skin health operating at an optimal level.

This is why we champion coconut milk in our Coconut & Oat Bath Soak; a soak that is also rich in magnesium and other minerals to help relieve muscle aches and soothe dry, itchy skin.
